他睥睨下方，
彷彿俯視凡塵；
他挺著胸膛，
彷彿包藏世間 。
可是他的雙手在哪？
負在背後？
插在褲袋？
還是根本沒有雙手，
沒有能力影響他人，
也沒能抓住自己的命運。
不過，
他仍憋著一口氣，
撐著他人未戳破的體面，
撐著自己在呵護的尊嚴。

He casts a sidelong gaze downward,
as if surveying the mortal world from above.
He thrusts out his chest,
as if he could conceal all creation within it.
But where are his hands?
Folded behind his back?
Stuffed into his pockets?
Or did he never have hands at all—
no power to sway others,
and no grip on his own fate.
And still,
he holds in one stubborn breath,
propping up a dignity others have yet to pierce,
propping up a respect he himself is busy protecting.

彼は下を睥睨し、
あたかも凡塵を俯視するかのように。
彼は胸を張り、
まるで世間を包み隠すかのように。
しかし、彼の両手はどこにあるのか。
背後に回しているのか。
ズボンの袋に突っ込んでいるのか。
それとも、そもそも両手などなく、
他人に影響を及ぼす力もなく、
自らの運命を掴むことさえできなかったのか。
それでも、
彼はまだ一息を憋え、
他者がまだ突き破っていない体面を支え、
自分が大切に抱えている尊厳を支えている。
