憤怒,
所以努目;
慈悲,
所以低眉。
設使世間無有不公,
何必又怒又悲?
然而,
無量努目,
奸佞依舊;
有情低眉,
苦主不減。
欲問如來:
何不以五指山之雄力,
拍死如兩頭蛇之醜類?
誠能如是,
則金剛捧腹,
菩薩展顏,
可謂善哉!善哉!

Anger and Compassion
Anger opens the eyes wide;
compassion lowers the brows.
If this world were free of injustice,
why would one feel both anger and sorrow?
Yet even so—
countless wrathful eyes,
and treachery remains;
countless compassionate beings,
and sufferers are never fewer.
So one asks the Tathagata:
why not, with the might of Wuzhishan,
strike down the fork-tongued wicked in a single blow?
If such could be done,
the Vajra would roar with laughter,
the Bodhisattva would finally smile—
ah, how worthy! How worthy indeed!
〈怒と悲〉
怒れば、
眼を見開き;
悲しめば、
眉を伏す。
もし世に不公なきならば、
何ゆえ人は、怒りも悲しみも抱くのか。
しかしながら——
無量の怒目あれど、
奸佞はなお存し;
覚有情の低眉あれど、
苦しむ者は減らず。
ここに如来に問わん。
なにゆえ五指山の雄威をもって、
二つの舌をもつ醜き輩を
一撃にて鎮し給わぬのか。
もしそれ能わば、
金剛は腹を抱えて笑い、
菩薩は静かに微笑まれん。
ああ、よきかな、よきかな。
