滄海是綢。
牠浮起的一瞬，
被人誤以為是典故，
是傳說，
是神話。
其實誰都知道：
礁上並無歌聲，
月下並無珠淚。
有的，
只是一聲獸鳴，
一口換氣。
但人心就是這樣。
明知是誤會，
還是想相信那份美麗。
相信浪花裡有孤寂，
相信孤影裡有柔情。
相信海洋深處，
透射著神秘的光。
有些誤會之所以美麗，
不是因為想像，
也不是因相像，
卻是因為我們想它像罷了。

A Beautiful Misunderstanding

Breeze as fine as threads,
the vast sea like woven silk.
In the brief moment it surfaces,
we take it for a legend,
a story,
a myth.
Yet everyone knows:
there are no songs upon the reefs,
no pearly tears beneath the moon.
What exists
is only a beast’s low call,
a single breath for air.
But the human heart is like this.
Knowing it is a mistake,
we still wish to believe in that beauty.
To believe there is loneliness in the foam,
tenderness in a solitary shadow,
and in the ocean’s depths,
a light of mystery rising through the dark.
Some misunderstandings are beautiful
not because of imagination,
nor because of resemblance,
but simply because
we want them to resemble what we hope.
美しい取り違え
風は絹糸のように細く、
滄海は一枚の綢のごとし。
その一瞬、
そっと浮かび上がる姿を、
人は典故と見なし、
伝説、
神話と見まがう。
けれど誰もが知っている。
礁に歌声はなく、
月下に真珠の涙もない。
あるのはただ、
獣のひと声と、
ひとつの息継ぎだけ。
だが、人の心とはそういうもの。
誤りと知りながらも、
なお、その美しさを信じたくなる。
波間に孤独を、
影にやわらぎを見いだし、
海の深みから
神秘の光が差すと信じてしまう。
美しい取り違えが美しいのは、
想像のためでも、
似ているからでもなく、
ただ——
そうであってほしいと願う私たちの心のせいなのだ。
