Celebrities, when looked at too long,
become a series of historical photographs.
People assume
that seeing an image
means seeing the truth.
But celebrities are skilled at posing;
a photograph is only an outer layer.
The living parts—
like the warmth of a cheongsam,
like the secrets held in the eyes—
remain hidden in the places
a camera cannot reach.
I love blankness.
Because the lines left un-drawn
are sometimes closer
to their true shape
than the lines drawn.
留白の名人
名人は長く見られすぎると、
まるで歴史写真の束のようになる。
人はこう思う。
「映像を見れば、
その素顔も見えるのだ」と。
しかし、
名人はポーズが上手い。
写真はただの外衣にすぎない。
生きた部分——
チャイナドレスの温度のようなもの、
瞳に宿る思いのようなもの——
それらはみな、
写らない場所に隠れている。
私は留白が好きだ。
描かれない線のほうが、
