風吹過那座牌坊，
那塊牌匾，
吹起淡淡歷史、
縷縷想像。
當年，
勤謹舟人，
漂浮東方。
隨沙鷗而揚帆，
逐長鯨而出海。
在守禮之邦，
當萬國之津。
日出而作，
日入而息。
東來西往，
垂四百載。
顧視漸長的日影，
欲問牌匾：
知否今世，
換了人間？
只見牌匾的線與影，
依舊靜靜描著昔日的天際線。

Memories of the Islands
.
The wind once passed that archway,
that old plaque,
stirring faint histories
and drifting imaginations.
In those days,
diligent boatfolk
floated upon the waters of the East.
They raised their sails with the sand gulls,
chased the long whales into open waters.
In the Land that Kept Its Rites,
gateway of many nations,
they worked at sunrise
and rested at sunset.
Eastward and westward they traveled,
as four centuries quietly flowed by.
Gazing at the lengthening shadows,
one longs to ask the plaque:
Do you know if this age
has become another world?
Only the plaque’s lines and shadows
still, in quiet persistence,
trace the skyline of days long gone.
島々ぬ記憶
風や、あの牌楼をぬけていって、
古い扁額までゆらして、
淡い歴史と、
細かい想いをふわりと起こしたんよー。
むかしむかし、
勤み深か舟人たーや、
東の方にぷかりと浮かんでたんやさ。
浜のカモメといっぺーに帆を上げて、
長い鯨ぬあとを追うて外洋へ出じたんどー。
ここ守礼之邦や、
万国津梁の要やったんやさ。
日ぬ上がいれば働ち、
日ぬ落ちれば憩うて、
東へ西へと行き来いしながら、
四百年の時が流れたんよー。
伸びていく日影をじーっと見て、
扁額に問いかけたくなるわけさ。
――今の世や、
まーかい変ゃってしもうたんやろか。
ただ扁額ぬ線と影だけが、
今なー、静かに
昔日の水平線を描ちょーいんどー。
