The flames of Yan and Huang fade in the mist,
their ancestral line has fallen into silence.
Yet I believe—
that ancestor who struck fire from wood,
who built nests upon the trees,
who once hunted the mammoth,
and lay in wait for the giant deer—
he must have existed.
I do not know him,
nor did he know me.
Our only connection now
is a few fragile threads of genes,
and the stories that still remain.
遠き祖
炎と黄の民はかすみ、
系譜（けいふ）はすでに絶え。
それでも私は信じている——
木を擦って火を起こし、
樹上に巣を築いた祖先を。
かつてマンモスを追い、
大角鹿を待ち伏せた人を。
彼は確かに存在した。
私は彼を知らず、
彼も私を知らない。
私たちを結ぶものは、
わずかな遺伝の糸と、
語り継がれる伝説だけ。
